Summer Nights at the Ford (Hollywood) -- John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Los Angeles

Shakespeare By The Sea Shakespeare by the Sea --  Point Fermin Park, 807 Paseo Del Mar, San Pedro.
Outdoor summer performances of a selected play by Shakespeare. Free to the public. Bring a picnic basket.

Children's Nature Institute's Kids' Festival -- Pacific Palisades (Temescal Gateway Park)
Just for 0-8 year olds! Over 25 hands-on activity booths that teach children about nature! Have an undersea adventure, spin your own spider web, run through mole mazes, and more! Admission charge. Information: (310) 998-1151

L.A. Kids Read Festival -- Los Angeles (Los Angeles Central Library, 630 West Fifth Street)

Long Beach Chili Cook-Off -- Long Beach (Marina Green - Across from Long Beach Convention Center)

Montrose Arts & Crafts Festival -- Montrose (Shopping Park)
Arts and crafts from all over the country, including painting, pottery, jewelry, clothing and garden accessories. Information: (818) 957-5277

Valley Fair -- Castaic (Castaic Lake Park)

The IFP Los Angeles Film Festival -- Los Angeles (Directors Guild of America, 7920 Sunset Blvd)
This festival showcases the best of American and international independent cinema with over 100 screenings. The festival has evolved into a world-class event, uniting emerging filmmakers with critics, scholars, film masters, and the movie-loving public. Information: (310) 951-7090

Juneteenth Jubilee 2003 Celebration -- Long Beach (Martin Luther King, Jr. Park)
This celebration observes the anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. It includes non-stop entertainment and gospel music, a family-style barbecue, a moon bounce, and face painting for the kids. Information: (562) 570-4405

Great American Irish Fair & Music Festival -- Encino (Festival Fields, Woodley Park)
The Largest American-Irish Event in the Western United States. A celebration of everything Irish. Information: (626) 503-2511

Playboy Jazz Festival -- Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles
The premier jazz festival of the West Coast. A musical feast with two days of continuous jazz entertainment from the best-selling artists in jazz, blues, big band and fusion. Seventeen and a half hours of music with no intermission.

Summer Solstice Folk Music Dance & Storytelling Festival -- Calabasas (Soka University of America)

JMP Jazz & Blues Festival -- Los Angeles (Leimert Park Village)
The culminating event of the Jazz Mentorship Program featuring performances by master jazz and blues artists as well as by their young protégés. Other activities, including instrument-making, dance and arts & crafts for all age groups are offered in several venues. Information: (213) 485-0709

Mariachi-USA Festival (Hollywood) -- Los Angeles (Hollywood Bowl)

Long Beach Bayou Festival -- Long Beach (Queen Mary Events Park)

Christopher Street West - Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Pride Celebration -- West Hollywood
The largest gay and lesbian pride festival west of the Mississippi. Dancing, music, entertainment, vendors, arts and crafts. Information:

Juneteenth Celebration -- Northridge (9015 Wilbur Ave/Cross Street Nordhoff)
Learn about African American culture and the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation which set slaves free in January 1863. There will be music from Jazz to Hip Hop, Councilmen and Military Personnel.  Information: (818) 464-3502

Artwallah Festival of South Asian Arts -- Los Angeles (LAGLC’s Village, 1125 N McCadden Place)
Showcasing artforms representing the South Asian diasporic experience, including dance, film, literature, music, theater, visual arts, and spoken word.  The four-day festival is comprised of daytime programming, spotlighting artists and different genres, and evening shows, sampling the festival as a whole in a three-hour performance. Sawdust Art Festival -- Orange County
Although this festival is located in neighboring Orange County, it does warrant mention here. Several hundred artisans and crafts people showcase their works in an original environment of hand-built booths, strolling entertainment and free art and craft lessons for children. Festival on the Green "American Salute" -- Arcadia (The Arboretum of Los Angeles County, 301 N Baldwin Ave)
The California Philharmonic hosts its Festival on the Green concert series at the Arboretum of Los Angeles County. Music, food, and a great location combine into a magical blend unparalleled in Southern California. An engaging maestro, a world-class orchestra, and top soloists ensure enjoyment for all. Absolut Chalk Street Painting Festival -- Pasadena City Hall
The event features more than 600 artists, live music, a variety of food, farmers market, outdoor art gallery and silent auction, and Chalkland, an area for children and families to draw. Information: (626) 440-7379

Fiesta of Gems Rock & Mineral Show -- Culver City

International Young Artists Peninsula Music Festival -- Palos Verdes Peninsula (Norris Theatre for the Performing Arts)

Hollywood Black Film Festival -- Hollywood (TBA)
