Walk to Remember -- Mission San Gabriel to Olvera Street
Celebrating the establishment of the City of Los Angeles more than 200 years ago. A retracing of the nine mile route taken by the 44 original settlers of El Pueblo de Los Angeles in 1781. Information: (

City of Los Angeles Birthday Celebration -- Los Angeles (Olvera St.)
Sep. 4. LA’s longest running celebration - historic reenactments, artisan demonstrations, entertainment and food are all part of this event. Information: (213) 485-6855

Oktoberfest -- Torrance (Alpine Village)
Celebrating the great German Oktoberfest with a 3,000 seat Beergarten, oom pah bands from Germany and lots of competitions for best beerstein holding, woodsawing, cowmilking, yodeling, pretzel eating, etc. Information: (310) 327-4384

Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture -- San Pedro (Pt. Fermin)
Celebrate Philippine independence with music, dance, Filipino films, food, arts, crafts, children’s games, and a rice planting exhibit at this festival. Information: (213) 389-3050

City of Los Angeles Triathlon -- Los Angeles
Combines three of the top participant sports in the U.S. - swimming, cycling and running in one of the largest triathlons in the country. Information: (

Silver Lake Film Festival -- Los Angeles (Silver Lake)
A showcase for alternative features, short films and videos. Music, art and lectures will also be featured. Information: (323) 993-7225

Mexican Independence Festivities -- Los Angeles (Olvera St.)
This Olvera St. celebration features entertainment, ballet folklorico, mariachi music, an art exhibit, Mexican food and children’s activities. Information: (213) 485-6855

Los Angeles County Fair -- Los Angeles County Fairgrounds, Pomona
The largest county fair in North America. Features exhibits, carnival fides, rodeos, shows, entertainment, music and a variety of activities for all ages. Information: (909) 623-3111

Moon Festival -- Los Angeles (Chinatown)
The Moon Festival, one of the most celebrated Chinese holidays, is observed in Chinatown with two days of cultural entertainment and activities for the entire family. The festivities include a traditional lion dance, a lantern parade with children, a Moon Festival ceremony and moon viewing. Information: (213) 680-0243

Oldies & Goodies Classic Car Show -- Santa Clarita (Saugus Speedway, 22500 Soledad Cyn Rd)
500-plus cars, trucks and motorcycles competing in 30 trophy class categories. A family event of live "oldies" bands, dancing, food, beer, rides, games and vendors. Information: (661) 259-3886

Palos Verdes Tour d'Epicure Road Rallye -- Rancho Palos Verdes

Manhattan Beach Arts Festival -- Manhattan Beach (Manhattan Beach Blvd between Pier and Valley Dr)
This festival features food from local restaurants, music, dancing, workshops, and all forms of art. Information: (310) 802-5403

Latinos in Hollywood Photographic Exhibition -- Hollywood (Egyptian Theater, 6712 Hollywood Blvd)
The exhibition highlights the history, achievements, and participation of Latinos in the film and television industry from early beginnings to the present. More than 140 still photographs are featured. Information: (310) 274-6234

Los Angeles International Short Film Festival -- Los Angeles (Hollywood)
The premier short film festival in the nation. More than 100 original short films will be shown along with panel discussions and workshops. The Character Actor Award will also be presented to an actor/actress of high artistic integrity. Information: (323) 663-0242

Los Angeles Korean Festival "Hangawee" -- Los Angeles (Seoul International Park)
Come celebrate the richness of Korean culture at this festival, which features a parade, a business expo with over 120 booths, an international food court and a fun-filled street carnival.   Information: (213) 487-9696

Catalina Festival of Art -- Avalon, Catalina Island
The annual Catalina Festival of Art’s exhibits feature mixed media, photography, crafts, sculpture and a young artists show. Information: (310) 510-0808

East Side Art Crawl -- Art galleries in the Los Feliz, Silverlake, and Echo Park area
Participating galleries will throw their doors open for two nights from 7 to 11 pm. Refreshments and free entertainment will be provided at many of the galleries. (323) 666-7667

Minnie Riperton 5K/10K Run & Family Walk -- Los Angeles (Exposition Park)
A good cause to fight breast cancer and a good run. Information: (323) 291-7723

Re-enactment of the "Battle of Rio San Gabriel" -- Pico Rivera (Paramount Blvd. & Loch Lomond Rd)
This is the first time this historical battle will be re-enacted. Relive one of the most pivotal events in California history. 10:00 am-4:00 pm. Two battles daily at 11:00 am & 2:30 pm. Information: Tony Delgadillo at (323) 722-9937

Brazilian Street Carnival and Independence Day Celebration -- Long Beach (Downtown)
Downtown Long Beach transforms into a Rio Carnival with Brazilian bands, food, crafts, and a big Rio-style parade. Information: (562) 438-3669

City of West Hollywood Book Fair -- West Hollywood (West Hollywood Park, 647 N San Vicente Blvd)
The Book Fair will promote literacy and feature writing workshops, multi-cultural food booths, poetry salons, entertainment and a diverse group of authors and artists discussing a variety of topics. Admission is free. Information: (323) 848-6460

The Salvadoran Parade & Festival -- Los Angeles (L.A. City College)
A parade and festival to celebrate Salvadoran heritage along with traditional food, music, public readings and other family events.

Taste of Santa Monica -- Santa Monica Pier
Sample delicious treats from 40 Santa Monica fine restaurants, enjoy live music and chef demonstrations all day and the warm summer sunshine and cool ocean breezes on Santa Monica pier. Information: (310) 393-9825

Thai Cultural Day -- Los Angeles (Barnsdall Art Park, 4800 Hollywood Blvd)
This festival celebrates Thai culture with a parade, dance, costume contests, folk music, Thai food, vegetable carvings, film, games, and Thai boxing. Information: (310) 827-2910

Lobster Festival -- Redondo Beach (Seaside Lagoon)
This three-day beach fest is the "Original Lobster Festival" with musical entertainment, a children’s stage, lobsters, food, drink and dancing.

Watts Towers Day of the Drum Festival -- Los Angeles (Watts Towers Arts Center)
This grand event features Afro-Cuban folk music, Afro-Brazilian percussion ensembles, and steel, Japanese Taiko and jazz drummers. Information: (213) 847-4646

Hart of the West Intertribal Pow Wow -- Santa Clarita (William S. Hart Park & Museum)
Rated as the number one Native American event in California. A display of cultural activities and crafts and a spiritual celebration. This event has grown to 60 booths and 200 dancers. Information: (661) 255-9295

Latino Book & Family Festival -- Los Angeles (Exposition Park - Sports Arena)
This event is the largest Latino expo in the nation and offers six themed villages: Book; Careers, Education, & Technology; Children's; Culture & Travel; Health; and Mi Casita. Also featured are entertainment, authentic food, and cultural presentations. Information: (310) 745-1567

Valyermo Fall Festival -- Valyermo
A festive gathering with the community of the Benedictine monks of St. Andrew's Abbey. Crafts, food, arts, animals, music, dance and exhibitions. (661) 944-2178

Abbot Kinney Boulevard Festival -- Los Angeles (Venice)

Simon Rodia's Watts Towers Jazz Festival -- Los Angeles (Watts Towers Arts Center)
