Per 2001 crime statistics, Santa Clarita is considered the safest city in which to live in Los Angeles County and the 23rd safest in the nation. Other Los Angeles County cities that ranked high nationally (out of 327 cities) were Whittier (rank: 47), Burbank (rank: 55), Torrance (rank: 67), Glendale (rank: 74), and Alhambra (rank: 81). Long Beach ranked at 206 and the City of Los Angeles ranked at 263.  Unfortunately, one local city, Compton, ranked ninth as one of the 30 most dangerous cities in the nation. – Morgan Quitno Safest City Awards
