In 2016, the Los Angeles County Mental Health Courthouse (1150 N San Fernando Road) was closed due to structural damage and its operations moved to the Metropolitan Courthouse in Downtown Los Angeles. Mental health cases are now heard at Hollywood Courthouse.

The newest courthouse in Los Angeles County is the $340-million Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse in Long Beach, opened in 2013. It is 65% larger than the old Long Beach courthouse that was built in 1959 and was located only a block away at 415 West Ocean Boulevard. The old courthouse, torn down in 2016, was then considered by state officials to be one of the most outdated in California.
