The official tree of Los Angeles is not a tropical palm, but the coral tree (erythrina). The stand of coral trees growing along the Brentwood median strip on San Vicente Boulevard (between 26th Street and Brigham Avenue) were designated a Los Angeles cultural-historical monument in 1976.
