Glenn
Anderson Los Angeles County's newest freeway, the Glenn Anderson Freeway, is named for Glenn Malcolm Anderson (1913-1994) who represented the South Bay in the U.S. Congress for eight terms (1968-1984) and also served as Mayor of Hawthorne (1940-?) and Lieutenant Governor of California (1958-1966). Anderson rose in Congress to become Chairman of the House Public Works and Transportation Committee. In this position, he fought for and won funds to build the I-105. The 17.3 mile freeway was completed in 1993 at a cost of $2.2 billion.
