Some white Americans have learned that, simply saying that they themselves are not racists does little to rid our country of a subversive and destructive culture of racism. Fellow Americans of color continue to suffer the consequences of this culture, even to the point of losing their lives to it. AWARE-LA encourages white Angelenos to learn to shift from being "not racist" to "anti-racist" (and why there's a big difference). The organization believes that people of color should not always have to be the ones to educate white people about racism. So AWARE-LA organizes white people to take responsibility for unlearning racism, their own white privilege, and how to challenge it.
