The Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers lead the NBA with 32 appearances in the NBA Finals since 1947. The Boston Celtics follow with 23 appearances. With their victory in the 2020 NBA Finals, the Lakers tied the Boston Celtics for total number of NBA Final championships, at 17 each. Boston, however, again regained the lead with an 18th NBA championship win in 2024.


The Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers also lead the NBA with 185 games played in the NBA Finals (150 as the Los Angeles Lakers). They won 93 of these games (73 as the Los Angeles Lakers), the most games won in the Finals. The Boston Celtics follow in second place with 129 games played and 81 won in the Finals.
