The Tournament of Roses Game or "Rose Bowl" is nicknamed the “Granddaddy of Them All.” It is the oldest annual post-season college football game in the nation (played since 1902). It originated the term "bowl" for college games (so named due to the bowl-shape of the Rose Bowl stadium). Since 1945, it has also consistently been the most attended of the nation’s college bowl games (91,136 attendance on Jan. 1, 2020, and a TV audience of 16.3 million).

(1) Due to security concerns shortly after the Dec.7, 1941, act of war by Japan, the Rose Bowl event was temporarily moved to the East Coast.
(2) Due to a severe surge in COVID-19 cases in California at the time and the state's public health restriction against in-person spectators at sporting events, the 2021 Rose Bowl event was temporarily moved to Texas. The City of Pasadena shared licensing rights with the Tournament of Roses Association for use of the name "Rose Bowl," so the city had to agree to allow for the event to be held outside of Pasadena.
