How Much Water is One Inch of Rain?

With a cumulative total of 53.59 inches of rainfall for the last two rain seasons in Downtown L.A. (2022-2023 and 2023-2024), these were the second wettest two consecutive rain seasons for Downtown since 1879. The wettest consecutive two seasons were between 1888 and 1890, with a combined 54.12 inches.

On May 20, 2024, the official Downtown Los Angeles weather observation site was relocated from the University of Southern California (USC) campus, where it had been located since 1999, to the Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center in Elysian Park. The new site is at the training center for the Los Angeles Fire Departmenton, on the south side of Dodger Stadium, approximately four miles northeast of the USC campus. The center was formerly known as the Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center.

Nevertheless, the National Weather Service (NWS) appears to have continued reporting for the USC location. at least through the end of June. Until NWS completes the changeover in reporting, the Almanac will continue to post here for both sites.
